Marzio Conti conducts a participatory concert in Bilbao

The Italian conductor will conduct next week the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra. The partipatory concert, with the Mozart's Requiem, include more than seven chorals groups. The soloists will be Raquel Lojendio, Cristina Faus, Agustín Prunell-Friend and Josep Miquel Ramón.

Marzio Conti, conductor

Born in Florence in 1960, Marzio Conti began his career as a flautist making his debut in Salzburg Festival being considered one of the finest representatives of the italian flute- playing in the world. He gave up his brilliant career as a soloist and teacher to dedicate himself to conducting.

He has collaborated regularly with many italian orchestras as the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino, the Orchestra del Teatro Massimo di Palermo or the Orchestra Teatro Bellini di Catania, among ohters, as well as other European and American orchestras as the National Symphony Orchestra from Ireland, Bournemouth Symphonietta, Symphonic International Orchestra from Dortmund, Orchestra Sinfonica from Oporto or the Opera from Río de Janeiro. He has performed with soloists of international prestige as Barbara Hendricks, Mischa Majsky, Boris Belkin or enato Bruson. He has conducted in important Music Halls such as the Santa Cecilia in Rome, Serate Musicali di Milano or the Auditorio Nacional from Madrid.

He has served as principal guest conductor of the Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese (L’Aquila) from 1998 to 2003 and after as chief conductor  of the Orchestra Philharmonica of Turin and permanent conductor of the Teatro Marrucino of Chieti until December 2007. In 2006 he was appointed chief conductor of the Orquestra National d’ Andorra.

He has recorded for labels such as Naxos, Chandos, CPO and RS, recording more than 12 CD’s with music by Nino Rota, Casella, Malpiero, Rossini, Donizzeti, Mozart, Cimarosa, Fauré, Debussy or Verdi. His television appearances also include a national broadcast of Verdi’s “La Traviata” on the popular “Loggione”series on Canale 5. He has embarked on a project with the Ricordi music-publishing house to record 20th century Italian music with the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino for various labels.

Recently, he had a great success with the ballet Giselle by Adolphe Adam at the Opera House in Seoul. Marzio Conti is the new Chief Conductor of the Oviedo Filarmonía.
