Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Marjana Lipovšek is considered to be one of the most notorious mezzo-sopranos in the world. After completing her studies at the Graz Musikhochschule, she was engaged by the Vienna Staatsoper and the Munich and Hamburg operas, where she was given the opportunity of interpreting some of the most relevant roles: Oktavian from Der Rosenkavalier, Dorabella from Così fan tutte, Marina from Boris Godunov, and Ulrica from Un ballo in maschera.

Since then she has been invited to sing at the most important opera houses around the globe: Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Opéra de la Bastille in Paris, London Covent Garden, New York Metropolitan Opera, Berliner Staatsoper, etc. She has performed with some of the most renowned orchestras like the Berliner Philharmoniker, Wiener Philhamoniker, London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, or the Dresden Staatskapelle, amongst many others. She has collaborated with the most prestigious international batons: Daniel Barenboim, Sir Colin Davis, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Kent Nagano, Giuseppe Sinopoli, and more.
