Biography
Born in Oviedo (Spain), this versatile soprano encompasses many different styles, keeling equally comfortable in recital, concert and opera.
After her debut on stage with the role of Manuela (La Chulapona) at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid and at the Edinburgh’s Festival under Miguel Roa’s direction, she performs her operatic debut with the role of Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, under direction of Alberto Zedda. After this great success she was invited to sing this same role at the Pesaro’s “Rossini Opera Festival”, at Turin’s “Festivale Settembre Musica”, and at the Trieste’s Verdi Theatre.
After her United States debut, at the Pittsburg Opera, with Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), followed roles as Adalgisa (Norma), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Dorabella (Cosí fan tutte), Idamante (Idomeneo), Charlotte (Werther), Ottavia (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Carmen (Carmen). She has performed in very important Theatres as Teatro Real de Madrid, Arriaga de Bilbao, Marseille’s Opera, Bourdeaux, Reims and Nice, Tel Aviv’s New Israeli Opera or the Ópera de Massy in Paris, among others.
Lola Casariego has offered numerous recitals and concerts: Réquiem by Mozart, the Misa en si menor by Bach, the Mesías by Händel or the Misa Solemne and 9ª Sinfonía by Beethoven. She has performed in the most important Spanish auditoriums and Festivals as well as other international concert halls such as the Salle Pleyel of Paris, the Viena and Berlin’s Konzerthause and the Prague’s Smétana Hall. She has been directed by conductors, such as Frans Brüggen, Christopher Hogwood, Andrew Parrot, Juanjo Mena, Harry Christophers and most of the very important Spanish conductors.
In 2008 she debuted in Monte Carlo’s Opera (Preziosill, La forza del destino), and with the leading role of the opera Carmen at Weimar and Leipzig with the Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester of Leipzig. Moreover she made her debut at the Lincoln Center (New York) with its main orchestra, conducted by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos with La vida breve by Falla. With the role of Salud (La vida breve) she has performed a tour in Israel and a concert in Madrid with the ORTVE under the conduction of Antoni Ros Marbà.
Lola Casariego has recorded for important labels such as EMI Classics, Audivis- Valois and Harmonia Mundi.
