Geert Smits

Born in Helden, Holland, Geert Smits began his musical studies in the Tilbrug’s Conservatory, specializing later in the Sweelinck Conservatorium of Amsterdam with Bernard Kruysen. After obtaining his degree cum laude, he continued his training with Margaret Honig, Udo Reinemann, Robert Holl, Walter Berry, Dietrich Discher- Dieskau, Elio Battaglia and Mikael Eliasen.

Geert Smits has been invited to sing in the most important European opera theatres and auditoriums like Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, Staatsoper of Vienna or the Nederlandse Opera as well as  to the most prestigious festivals like the one in Salzburg or Melbourne. He has worked under the baton of the most important and international stage directors, like Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sylvain Cambreling, Riccardo Chailly, Jos van Veldhoven or René Jacobs, among others.
